Italian Republic day

Today it’is the Italian Republic day. On June 2nd 1946 Italians were called to chose between Republic or Monarchy. Few days after the vote, the italian king Umberto II decided to escape to Portugal. It was the first universal Italian votation, the first one for men and women. The result was 12.717.923 for the Republic and 10.719.284 for the monarchy, not big difference to take calm the political climate.
It’s also the Garibaldi’s death day (1882).
